Conducted at IACG Multimedia College | Mentored by Dhanasree

Creating Intricate Circles of Balance and Harmony

The Mandala Art Workshop introduced students to the calming and creative practice of drawing mandalas — intricate circular designs known for their meditative and healing qualities. Participants explored the cultural meaning behind mandalas, learned essential tools and techniques, and discovered how creating patterned circles can improve focus, patience, and mindfulness.

By the end of the session, every student produced their own beautifully detailed mandala artwork.

Workshop Overview

Key Concepts Covered

The Meaning

Students began by understanding what a mandala truly represents. Derived from the Sanskrit word for "circle", a mandala symbolizes unity, balance, and harmony. It is widely used as a meditative tool that helps calm the mind, reduce stress, and guide deep concentration.

The Tools

Participants learned to use essential mandala-making tools such as: Compass for drawing perfect circles, Protractor for dividing sections accurately, Ruler for precise measurements, and Fine-liner pens for detailed pattern work. Hands-on practice with each tool helped students develop control and precision.

The Foundation

The most important step in mandala art is laying down the base grid. Students learned how to create: Concentric circles, Divided radial sections, and Symmetrical guidelines. This grid served as the backbone for building a harmonious, balanced mandala.

The Process

Once the foundation was ready, students began building their mandalas from the center outward — the traditional technique. They filled each layer with repeating shapes, patterns, and motifs, discovering how rhythm and repetition create visually soothing designs.

The Outcome

By the end of the workshop, each participant completed their own unique, intricate mandala artwork. The final pieces reflected not just skill and technique, but also the students' creative expression and personal sense of calm achieved during the process.
