Become a Visual effects soldier
If you have friends with a creative bent of mind, you may find that they get annoyed when you make technical mistakes about their work. The list of possible such sins is endless – from referring to works of art as mere sketches to confusing animation films with cartoons. One could say that India has not yet experienced or accepted the genre of animation as well as the West, but with the success of Baahubali, which made Rs 545 crore at the box office, there is a growing buzz about the animation industry. But wait! The film cannot be categorized purely as a work of animation. It has been crafted so well through the magic of VFX (visual Effects)! Unfortunately, though it is an emerging industry the VFX training institutes in Hyderabad are minimal. Whether you are a student at the crossroads or just here to gain some knowledge, read on to understand the difference between VFX and Animation.
According to the Oxford Dictionary, Animation is “the technique of photographing successive drawings or positions of puppets or models to create an illusion of movement when the film is shown as a sequence.” It also defines computer animation as “the manipulation of electronic images by means of a computer in order to create moving images.” On the other hand, VFX refers to the processes by which imagery is created and/or manipulated outside the context of a live action shot and VFX courses teach you all the fine details.
So ultimately this is the differentiator: Animation is a medium of storytelling while VFX is an ingredient used to create visual magic to enhance the story. VFX is not a medium of storytelling. It is a masala that needs to go with every film like music/sound. In some films, the VFX part is not visible because it is so well done, but the fact of the matter is that today there can be no film without VFX; it has become a necessity. While using animation, a story is entirely created from imagination. VFX cannot stand alone without a base of live action/animation footage. Learn best high-end Visual Effects (VFX) courses by being a part of one of the esteemed visual effects institute in Hyderabad. Our students are placed in the best VFX studios such as MPC which did visual effects for 2017 Oscar winning movie “The Jungle Book”, Makuta of Eega and Baahubali fame, Walt Disney, DreamWorks etc.
Hollywood film director James Cameron’s technological masterpiece ‘Avatar’ pushed the boundaries of techno-creative excellence to unveil a never-before, spectacular visual experience on celluloid: a monster hit that enthralled audiences world wide. Back home, the Bahubali franchise treated movie geeks to yet another breathtaking visual spectacle, hitherto unseen on Indian screens. Thanks to VFX, imaginary yet near-realistic dream worlds in such elaborate detail as Pandora and Mahishmathi are now a ‘virtual reality’. And reigning over these virtual terrains with astonishing feats are digital super heroes, cyborgs, machines, aliens, beasts and weird creatures like King Kong, Hulk, T-1000 cyborg (Terminator-2), the autobot ‘Optimus Prime’ (Transformers) and T-Rex (Jurassic Park).
Cut to the real world where we are witnessing a surge in demand for VFX not just in the entertainment industry but across other sectors. From The Execution of Mary Queen of Scots’ (the first ever special effects film) to ‘Indian Rubber Head’, ‘Star Wars’, ‘Matrix’, and the Rise of the Planet of Apes, VFX has altered the craft of film making. The global VFX market is now valued at USD 8,611.79 million (2017) and is growing at a rapid CAGR of 12.78%. With about 110 large VFX companies and over 4000 more medium and small VFX studios across the world, thousands of fresh VFX artists are absorbed by the industry every year, pointing to a strong demand and excellent career potential for freshers.
